About the project
The Gezond Werken (Healthy Working) app was developed to support the resilience and health of police staff in an easy-to-access way. Police officers regularly experience distressing situations; with the app they can keep an eye on how they are doing and seek help in good time.
The app started in 2019 as the SupportApp project, funded by SAOP (the Dutch police's labour market and training fund), and grew into the Gezond Werken app: information and guidance on healthy working that is always available, created in collaboration with healthcare professionals.
Hubs took care of the UX, architecture, development and hosting of the app, commissioned by the Police.
What the app offers
- Information on nutrition (including for irregular shifts), sleep and exercise
- Work stress, screen work and unacceptable behaviour
- Traumatic events and distressing imagery
- Self-tests, including a self-test by ARQ Nationaal Psychotrauma Centrum, the Dutch national psychotrauma centre
- A personal check-up (APK) with a report on health, wellbeing and career
- Personal stories from colleagues
- Easy-to-access contact with the Safe and Healthy Work (VGW) team and healthcare professionals
Recognition
In December 2023 the team behind the Gezond Werken app was named TEAMHRM of the year by SAOP. The jury praised the team for making information on wellbeing and health accessible to the entire police organisation. Niels Spijkers, founder of Hubs, was part of that team.
